What is Ether-channel
- It is also called Link Aggregation or Port-channel.
- It helps you to combine or bundle multiple Physical links to a Single Logical Link.
- Maximum of 8 physical Interfaces can be combined.
- Duplex has to be the same.
- Speed has to be there same.
- Same native AND allowed VLANs.
- Same switch-port mode (access or trunk).
Protocols for Ether-Channel
- There are 2 Protocols used for Ether-channel
- PAgP (Port Aggregation Protocol -- Cisco Proprietary )
- LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol -- IEEE Standard)
PAgP Modes
- PAgP offers 4 modes,
- ON (It will not negotiate )
- OFF (Off mode)
- Auto (Interface will wait for other side to ask to become Ether-channel )
- Desirable (Interface will actively ask for other side to become Ether-channel )
